I love listening to podcasts while driving. They’re a great way to engage the mind while commuting. Recently, I listened to Dr. Dick Schwartz talking about Internal Family Systems, or IFS.
IFS is becoming a global movement in psychotherapy and is proving to be both popular and effective, particularly for helping people explore the parts of themselves that express depression, anxiety, trauma, and attachment issues. IFS offers a unique way to heal trauma by identifying and connecting with inner parts. Rather than dealing with behaviors and symptoms on the surface, this therapy goes deeper and, with compassion and curiosity, seeks to understand the motivation and burdens that we carry hidden within us. What I love about IFS is that it leads to lasting self-awareness and resolution of longstanding patterns that were created from past trauma. This therapy can help people to eventually become their own therapist, which is so empowering.
